Scuba Gear

The impact salt water can have on Scuba gear can be both subtle and blatant.

Salt has forever plagued both commercial and recreational divers, binding and jambing equipment, seizing zips on wet & drysuits and progressively shortening equipments workable life. It miight be a beautiful world beneath the sea, but it comes at a price and can make even the best of equipment look horrible after several dives due to the onslaught of salt and its corrosive effect!

Removing salt effectively without causing problems to metal, glass, rubber, fabrics, etc. has not been easy. Care has to be taken in selecting the right product that will remove salt, but not attack metals, fabrics and lubricants essential to the equipments functions.

When used as directed, SALT-X SX50 will remove all salt and salt film from both external and internal parts of your dive equipment! As aggressive as SX50 is in removing even long term salt buildup, it will NOT harm rubber, fabrics, metals, glass, etc.

Conshelf 14

Above is a 30+ yr old Conshelf 14, will a lot of corrosion. It has not been serviced for a few years and is used most weekends.

Conshelf 14 cleaned

The same Conshelf after an overnight soak in SX50, still needs to be serviced.

The regulator in the pictures was soaked in a 1 - 35 mix of SX50 and fresh water and is still a very servicable old 'work-horse'. The inside of the second stage was also heavily corroded, but for many this is out of sight so out of mind. The modern regulators have non-metalic second stages, but still build up corrosion on the internal workings, making them sticky and more prone to malfunction.

Fabrics such as BCDs and Wetsuits can benefit from the same treatment:

Weight Pouches

Seaquest Weight pouches.

Before, then after a 1 minute soak in SX50!

Rinsing your equipment in fresh water goes a long way but does not get rid of all the salt, a residue still remains. Salt-X SX50 neutralizes and removes all the salt so it cannot reduce the life of the fabric or equipment. Plus your BC & wetsuit will be more supple and comfortable.

Salt-X SX50 is Diverite's recommended salt removal solution.

SX50 is also great for spraying down underwater camera gear if it's too big to immerse. This will get rid of all the residual salt that can get into seals, sticks to the outside and can get onto your hands when unloading your camera from the housing.

Keep a spray bottle of SALT-X SX50 solution handy to spray your camera gear between dives, particularly if you have to open an underwater housing to change media.

It's also a fast way to clean down underwater scooters, and wash off tanks, particularly bare aluminium ones, plus keep corrosion off the valves.

If you own a Dive Shop or are a Dive Tour Operator, using SX50 will add several years the life of your hire dive gear, wetsuits and BCs especially. Plus regs will be easier to service. With the costs involved in replacing hire equipment, that makes sound economic sense!

How to Use:

Simply mix SALT-X SX50 as directed and hold in a screw top barrel or bucket for dunking scuba gear, you can also use a garden type pump up sprayer for spraying down BCs and Wetsuits on a hanger or in the bath. Your zippers will soon improve and will appreciate the cleaning and lubing provided by the SX50 protective coating.

Don't rinse after using SX50!! Leave it to Air Dry on the equipment!

Change solution when salt film does not disappear when rinsing equipment.

"...This product is bloody good. I operate a Sea Ray with duel BMW Diesels and have set up an automatic salt water cooling flush out system so when I come in I hook up the fresh water hose to the system and it flushes out the motors from a tank I have installed. It is just a matter of turning off the sea cocks and turning on the flush out cocks. The vessel is also stored on a dry air dock, so I have no contact with the salt water. Keep up the good products!..."

"...I use Salt-X to flush my Mercruiser engines. My mechanic tells me that this is a great way to extend the life of my engines by removing built up traces of salt and corrosion inside the seawater side of my engines. It will extend the working life of my gear and improve resale value for the future. To me, this is cheap insurance for my valuable boat...”

Rick Terpstra, Brisbane

"...My 140hp outboard motor had bad salt crystallization on the lower leg, built up over 800hrs running and nothing I tried budged it. I thought that I'd just have to live with it but a mate told me about a product called SX50 he'd heard about and thought that I should give it a go.

I spoke to Jen from Salt-X and she said that I should also flush my motor with SX50 as any build up in the water galleries would be removed. I applied SX50 directly on the outside of my outboard leg and it came up like it was new again.

Also after flushing my motor with it a few times, the tell tail now is much stronger due to I think, SX50 cleaning things out in the water jackets. I'd recommend SX50 to anyone that wants to get optimum life out of their outboard...”

Buster 50

"....I took my Quintrex Hornet 435 to the Victoria River in the N.T. for a 12 day fishing trip. The conditions were extremely harsh in very dirty tidal water. My motor leg was white from the salt build up. With 40 deg heat, the salt dried on each day leaving a thicker coating on the motor, boat and trailer. On returning the lot was left in the shed for 2 months without washing.

The damage to the boat was so bad that I considered using a panel beater. I'd tried everything including car polish, but it wouldn't remove the build up around the weld joints.

I read an article in Club Marine magazine and decided to try the Salt-X products. To see the boat now you'd swear I spent 3 days polishing it! The motor looks brand new, the galvanised trailer is great, I'm wrapped. SaltBuster is fantastic stuff. I used the Auto Mix unit to flush out the motor with Salt-X and it made it so much easier. I wished I'd taken a before and after photo. I won't go anywhere without Salt-X and SaltBuster again. I can't praise it highly enough..."

Odour Buster

"...ODOUR BUSTER has been used as a general cleaning product in the clinic for a few months. I had the opportunity to really test its effectiveness on a serious odour problem when I had to perform an autopsy on a dog. The aftermath created a vile smell, which reeked through the clinic. The results really surprised me. I have never used a product with such effectiveness before..."

Jack Groenendyk; Veterinarian, Manly Clinic Brisbane

"....We trialed ODOUR BUSTER in the toilets throughout the showgrounds. Within a day the odours that we couldn't get rid of after trying other methods disappeared.

We will certainly be using ODOUR BUSTER again and again...."
Damon Phillips,
CEO Royal Agricultural Society of Queensland

Dog kennels
"...I have used Odour Buster on our dog kennels for some considerable time now and I am really happy with the results. I also use the product in our stable complex as well. I can thoroughly recommend it for smell control...."
